Every week, workers call our hotline to report intimidation and wage theft. They don\u2019t call the NC Department of Labor, which has been controlled by Republican labor commissioners since 2001. To them, our stolen labor is just a \u201ccivil matter,\u201d not a crime impacting thousands of families each year. Despite having the power to refer cases for prosecution, the NCDOL almost never treats wage theft as a criminal act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s why we organize.<\/strong> Workers attend our wage theft workshops to learn how to collect evidence, recruit their coworkers, and build the leverage they need to negotiate with their employers. When bosses refuse to come to the table, we escalate with direct action.
